Just expanding on #8: It has been extremely helpful to know the struggles of other youth groups. That "you are not alone" feeling that you get when you are a teenager, I have felt in ministry. Networking gives me the opportunity to share the struggles and realize that things like little/no budget, apathy, staff issues, and church attitudes toward youth are common problems in churches of all denominations. It is good to know others have overcome these struggles and picking their brain for tips is a blessing from God.

What a chilling thought: "Satan's youth group is way bigger than any of ours."

I think our desire to do things on our own can stem from selfishness, pride, insecurity, and ignorance. We're afraid that the youth ministry down the street will "steal" our kids, or we want to be able to say that we were solely responsible for the life change that occurs in students. Having a stable relationship with God to remove our insecurities is key to being a part of a youth ministry network where these fears, in a worldly sense, are relevant. But in a Kingdom sense, they are nonsense.

Very true! I didn't think about how kids would be encouraged to see other kids following Christ, especially kids from different youth groups that they might run into at school. Thanks for the input!

You've said a mouthful buddy! Great article!

I think it's also the impact our kids have on each other. Sure they need us, but to see another kid their age doing the same thing speaks volumes. If you have a kid going around asking where their friends were on Sunday, it's slightly different. It's part of why I love the camp experience so much. Our kids get to fellowship with other youth! I wish we all hung out more outside of camp. Build the community.

Again, great job! :)

Nick, great article! I have coordinated a local youth ministry network for two years now, and we've united about 20 or so ministries for various events and meetings. All of these are right on, and you've even given me some new ideas!

Our favorite saying at the network is "we are always stronger together than we ever could be alone." Why do churches (even small ones) always feel like we've got to do things on our own? Why do we care so much who gets the credit? There's so much competition between churches today! Satan's youth group is way bigger than any of ours, so he is our competition, not each other.

The question really is, "why NOT network?" You've really hit the nail on the head here. Thanks for your thoughts!!!
