Life Lessons About Starting a New Ministry
Adam McLane, over at his blog, just posted a very insightful post on starting a new ministry. He explains some of his fears and some of the life lessons he has learned. This is a great post for anyone on the brink of starting something new, or thinking about starting a new ministry.
Here is an excerpt from the post:
3. No more babysitting complacent teens. Since I’m not drawing a paycheck on this thing, I feel less-than-zero pressure to entertain. I want to invest in students, I want to invest in developing leaders. I want to teach God’s Word. And I have the ability to say no to the rest. Fun is always part of the equation. But watching kids be bored with the most exciting stuff on the planet… not my cup of tea.
I agree with Adam that the “most exciting stuff on the planet” can take a backseat to goofy games or corny icebreakers. While these things help build relationships, those relationships need to become vehicles to transfer the Gospel. Otherwise, it’s like driving up to the gas station but never pumping anything.
This post is especially helpful for me because I want to start a Christian club at a local middle school where there is no club currently, nor do I think there ever has been.

Hey dude, it's always fun to see how God takes something that He's working on in me, and I just happen to write down, and use that for someone elses thoughts. Very cool.
I'd love to meet up sometime when I'm up in LA. Fuller, eh? That's where the smart people seem to go.
Thanks for stopping by! Are you going to the NYWC in Anaheim this year? If so, maybe we can grab some coffee/lunch/dinner. I'll also be manning the Fuller Seminary booth in the exhibit hall on Sunday. I'll add you on Facebook so we can keep in touch.
