How do you deal with kids leaving your youth group?

Neil Young has a great guest post over at Josh Griffin’s blog that talks about when kids leave your youth group for the bigger/nicer/cooler/more high-tech one down the road. Check it out!

Neil’s post focuses on making sure the youth leader’s heart is in check when faced with ego challenging circumstances, like kids going to a different youth group.

To add: Youth leaders who are a part of a network will experience a better team attitude than youth leaders who go it alone. A network offers support when these sorts of things happen.

Some actions steps:

Pray for the student who has begun attending a different church.

Pray for the leaders in the youth group to disciple this student.

Don’t underestimate the investment you’ve made in this student. The fruit this student produces may be the result of your dedicated planting.

Realize you don’t always get what you think you deserve. Welcome to youth ministry.
